Real women and original HerRyde graphics from the brand’s first chapter in Abuja.
HerRyde was created after personal and family experiences of assault, robbery and anxiety on ride-hailing trips. The response was direct: a platform connecting women riders with vetted women drivers.

“We don’t want cases where women have to be on their toes.”
Founded by Monsurah Oluwafuyi, Muhammad Muazu and Kamaldeen Ibrahim, HerRyde launched in Abuja in August 2022. The original service paired women passengers with carefully vetted women drivers, with real-time tracking, trip sharing and an SOS button.
It was bootstrapped and built on the Onde white-label platform. HerRyde later reported more than 2,000 rides, over 500 passengers and 200 registered women drivers; those lifetime figures came from a founder interview and were not independently audited.
Operations paused in October 2023 so the team could re-strategise, improve the system and seek more capital. This new chapter is a relaunch: preserving the mission while rethinking the technology around it.
HerRyde’s social presence paired the reality of women driving in Abuja with warm illustrations and community-first messages.
Monsurah Oluwafuyi, known as Mansu, is HerRyde’s CEO and co-founder. Her background spans marketing, management consulting and HR; her work has always centered people before process.

HerRyde began with stories too many women recognise: sharing a live location before the car moves, staying hyper-alert throughout a trip, and hoping a driver respects a simple boundary. For Mansu, those stories were not abstract. Personal and family experiences of assault and robbery made the need impossible to ignore.
In August 2022, she and her co-founders launched HerRyde in Abuja with a bold, focused model: women driving women. The mission was not simply transport. It was to make a routine journey feel calmer and to create economic opportunity for women behind the wheel.
The work earned Reuters coverage, a World Economic Forum recognition shared by the company, and a place on the Aurora Tech Award 2023 shortlist. Now, as HerRyde prepares to return, Mansu’s original question still leads: how do we help women move without carrying fear into every ride?

The returning HerRyde is being designed to make pickup, matching, routing and arrival feel clearer from the first tap to the final stop.

The relaunch is still in development. Here is the experience we are building toward.
See an intelligent fare estimate and a suggested pickup point designed to make meeting your driver simpler.
AI-assisted matching considers nearby vetted women drivers, trip context and availability.
Traffic-aware routing, trip sharing and safety monitoring stay with the journey through arrival.

AI maps can help identify the route, estimate traffic and suggest a safer, easier pickup point. The technology supports the ride; accountable people, clear policies and trusted contacts remain central to the safety experience.
Tell us what riders need →HerRyde’s comeback needs women who know their city and care about how another woman feels in the back seat.

The original HerRyde driver journey included application, document review, vehicle inspection, training and approval. The returning platform is being designed to make opportunity easier to find and each shift easier to plan.
Understand where ride requests may rise, helping reduce empty driving time.
Receive trip opportunities based on distance, availability and journey fit.
Intelligent fare estimates designed to make the numbers easier to understand before accepting.

Many women who wanted to drive with the original service did not yet own a car. HerRyde identified vehicle access as a structural barrier and explored partnerships that could help more women get behind the wheel. That challenge remains part of the relaunch conversation.
The new safety vision combines vetted women drivers, transparent trip tools and AI-assisted signals, while keeping human judgment and response at the center.

No single feature can guarantee safety. The planned HerRyde approach combines preparation, visibility, smart signals and clear escalation.
Document review, vehicle inspection, training and approval before a driver joins.
Keep a trusted contact informed with ride and location details throughout the journey.
AI-assisted monitoring designed to flag unusual route deviations, long stops or unexpected ride patterns.
A clearer emergency flow designed to package live location and trip context for faster human help.
AI maps designed to suggest practical meeting points and reduce confusing roadside pickups.
Technology supports decisions; people, policies and response protocols remain responsible for action.

The original HerRyde social campaign made that priority visible in simple, direct language. The relaunch carries the same principle into every product and operational decision.
